  • Weed tea

When I took on my allotment back in May, I started making a batch of "weed tea". It's main purpose was just to destroy perennial weeds (horsetail, couch grass and bindweed, mostly), but now that is has rotted a fair bit, I was thinking of using the liquid for liquid feed (diluted 1:10).
The only thing is, it has a thick layer of grey fungal growth (it looks almost like ash) floating on top of the water, and there were even some mushrooms sprouting on top of one of the bricks I had in there to weigh the weeds down at one point.
Think it's still safe to use?
It does smell normal (that is, it stinks like cow manure).

It'll be safe to use, just scrape the scum to one side. When it's about used up pour the sludge onto your compost heap and don't be surprised if it contains rat-tailed maggots. Ugly looking things but they turn into drone flies which are good pollinators.
I once made some from couch and bindweed roots which smelt like it had come from a dairy farm.

It's good but smelly stuff. Wear gloves because the stench takes a while to wash off your skin/clothes.

And start another batch too, I bottle the stuff in plastic milk containers and store it to use as and when.

likewise here for milk containers (and a vinegar container as it happens)

definitely recommend the rubber gloves too.
