Autumn planting/sowing?

The last of my dwarf beans have been picked, apart from a few I was letting get big to for seed. I think my courgettes are about done, too.

That leaves me with 2 free 1m x 1m beds.
Was just wondering what I could plant next. I still have a bed of chard and perpetual spinach, although the latter has bolted quite badly, and another of tomatoes.

Any recommendations? I am in South East Kent.

Japanese onion sets (white and red ) or Aquadulce broad beans, in September and November respectively.

Do you get frosts where you are? I'm guessing it might be quite mild in your part of the country.

Might you be in time for a late sowing of more dwarf beans in the courgette bed? They'd die off before you needed to put onion sets in. Possibly some early peas like Douce Provence. You might get a harvest before fusarium wilt takes over. They too would die back before onion planting time.

If you don't overwinter onions or garlic, maybe some late beetroot or quick growing carrots. Salad leaves?

Salad leaves a definite as we eat loads, ditto beans.
Frosts are very late here, but we do get ferocious salt-laden winds.
I hadn’t thought about potatoes, will definitely give those a try.

Is it too late for PSB if I were to find plants?

Oooh, I love planting stuff this time of year. Japanese onions just popping up as we speak, I sowed thickly with a view to using some as 'spring' onions in due course.

I've had a few Witkeim Manita volunteers sprout from where I cut down the stalks of Spring sown broad beans, so will beef the raised bed up with some Luz de Otono (supposedly mature Sept to Nov) late broadies to fill the gaps. I'd think you'll have time for a last sowing of dwarf french beans as well

Also have some seedlings of the following to prick out and plant on in the next couple of weeks: Pak Choi, Florence Fennel, Chinese Cabbage, Broccoli Raab, Lettuce, Landcress, Endive...

You could also sow spring cabbage now, and any of the brassica salads (mizuna, mibuna, namenia, mustard greens etc). Also winter spinach and chinese celery.

If you're sowing now, you may still have time for baby beetroot. And you definitely still have time for daikon radish and oriental greens. Lettuce, too (for loose-leaf, not full hearts) and probably spring onions.

Hi Hamsterqueen, how about some Cauliflower “all year round” variety? I was thinking about doing the same thing next weekend.
