My celery has had a lot of water, the compost has not been allowed to dry out, a bit of tomato feed as well to top up the manure that was laid in the bottom of the trenches, by advisor told me the stuff is hungry and thirsty. It should now be blanched all the way up and only the top leaves sticking out, these should be covered to protect from frost too, I intend to drape fleece over mine when frost is expected.Last edited by burnie; 20-09-2019, 10:22 AM.

I got three celery plants at the allotment open day, and they've actually done really well! The stalks aren't as thick as what you get in the supermarket, but they look very healthy indeed, and I've pinched off a stalk to try it, and it's tender too!
I've not grown them before ever. So they're not hardy? I can feel the nip in the air here in Grimsby, so maybe I should wrap them up in fleece?

This is my first try, I grew the self blanching stuff years ago and the kids Rabbits and Guinea pigs ate that, it was tasteless. It might be beginners luck, but I put a fair bit of prep work in to help moisture retention prior to planting and then watered daily, the seed I used is from Robinsons.
