Busiest time of the year here for me.

Luckily the weeds aren't reappearing so quickly after having their heads hoed off.

Still full on harvesting all manner of produce.

Lots of brassica seedlings waiting in the wings to be planted.

Lots of onion sets and garlic ready to be planted.

Dalek needs emptying along with the other open compost heap.

Rather than waste greenhouse space during the winter I may utilise the pots and compost the toms are in now to grow something indoors, possibly garlic or some early brassicas or broad beans.

Because the whole plot was dug over last year I am hoping through use of the hoe and mulches I can adopt an 80% no-dig policy this year.

I've started clearing dead and dying plants already. And the weeding is out of control. Did a big stint just a few days back, but you'd never know today. It's like the desert blooming after rainfall out there at the moment, except rather than flowers its loads of grass and wild rocket.

My big job is getting back to field three, clearing as much as I can and then sowing some kind of green manure, even spinach.

Just emptied one of my water butts from the greenhouse, one still full will be enough now, removed the pipe from the gutters, so it won't fill up now. Last of the onions grown from seed lifted, using carrots, but they can stay in the ground until needed, ditto leeks and parsnips. Lifted last of the Pink Fir Apples, still have Red Duke of York in the ground, I will lift those this coming week along with the whites that I lost the label from, farmers are now lifting their tatties too(I tend to use them as a guideline). Still a few French beans, they will need watching as the temperatures begin to drop. Beech hedge trimmed, privet will need tidying, but I like to leave the berries for the birds. Major job is to fell 3 apple trees and prepare ground on new plot for replacement trees.

I've been busy collecting well rotted muck, three car trailer loads so far. That and lifting spuds is about all my aged body can manage with a full time desk to drive. Carol keeps up with the fruit picking and general harvests so we are mainly up to date(ish). Famous last words....

Today I cut the grass which I think will be the last cut for this year and while cutting the grass I also cut down some thin branches from a rowan tree along with some long branches from my thornless brambles and removed the last of the sweet peas, put the lot on top 9f the grass and runn the lawnmore over them, and are now on any space on the veg bed
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
