Snowball Onion Sets

I've been given some of these, but without any instructions on the bag.

Having gurgled for info - some sites say they can be autumn planted and others say they're for spring planting. Are they pretreated any differently for the different planting times?

Gi's a clue, what to do with them and please not the impolite answer LOL

They're treated as autumn-planting here. Get them in now for a crop that's a bit earlier than most autumn-planted sets. Quite handy.

Marshall's says autumn-planting, but Gardener's World claims autumn or spring.

I’ve just planted some, I’m not sure if they were snowball but they are round and white!

I tried Snowball Autumn planted sets one year, wasn't impressed.(I can't remember why but I have never grown them again).

I'm growing Autumn Champion sets for the first time this year so I will see how they perform.

Apparently white onions in general tend not to do well in this country. Too cool and damp. They don't get to a very good size, and the skins don't harden properly so they don't keep.

Sadly Ameno is correct. Mine didn't get much bigger than a bulb of garlic, they are tasty though so I planting some again this autumn. Along with some reds. The beds are all ready and waiting I am expecting the delivery any day now

Thanks for the replies..
I think I'll split the difference and put them into modules in the greenhouse in Jan or Feb so they get a good start before planting out. Will still have room for seed sown ones, and some shallots - so shouldn't be a total failure, if they don't fare too well.

If you haven't too much room for onions, I'd pass them on to someone else and sow ones you like.
