I'm going to have a go at rainbow chard for 2 reasons:
      1. It looks pretty on the seed packet.
      2. Last time I was at the garden centre my husband put a
packet of seeds in my basket.
I must be honest I have never eaten it. It may be another mistake.

I had a go at cucamelon a few years ago. I got lots and lots. It was a pity none of us liked them. Same with Jerusalem artichokes.

The really annoying thing is (even with global warming) I can't grow avocados and olives here in Yorkshire.

Me too. And even when I hear a description that sounds favourable I'm kinda like well I'm still not sure what I'd eat that with. Gonna grow them and see. Perhaps I'll come up with a recipe for cucumelon Margheritas

If you get a good recipe for cucamelon margeuritas you might well be my hero (and a millionaire). Not holding my breath!!!

I read they taste a bit like a cross between lime and water melon which sounds good for a Margherita. As well as a saison (beer). So challenge accepted .

Rainbow chard is great. Look super pretty and grows when cold. The stems can be a bit fiberous which puts some people off and it's a bit more bitter than say spinach but I quite like that.

I'm growing climbing spinach for the first time and making my first serious attempt at growing potatoes.

I also want to grow container garden varieties of cucumber and zucchini, but no-one has the seeds in stock at the moment.

I'm also growing Sungold tomatoes for the first time, but the weather has been extremely erratic here and all of the warm weather seedlings are struggling at the moment.

I am mainly intending to grow new varieties to me of things like beans eg trying blue lake for drying.
And determined to grow a sweet pepper that will actually ripen outside
                  And have some cucamelon seeds.......
Re chervil - don’t have to wait till next yr to grow. I pop it in with the cut and come again winter salad for an aniseed hit. Found it once in a med leaf mix and liked. In my garden it runs to seed in an instant and then pops up in the gravel path

I used to maintain a garden for a prestigious chef who used to complain massively when I pulled the Chervil out thinking it was a weed.
I figured that if a chef adored it so much, I had to give it a try.

Good luck with the cucamelon btw I grew it one year and wasn't particularly impressed.

I made the mistake of reading the bean thread so now have some greek gigante beans for drying. I think it was Sarris that said something about pattypans so have some seeds for those next year too. After VC said something about tomatillos and how she prefers the cape gooseberry I have seeds for those as well. Scarlet enticed me with the tomato thread so I am signed up to the seed swap so who knows how many new tomatoes I may end up with. The Polka raspberry canes are due next month and I am trying a few new variates of Garlic. I have put a new bed together to try my hand with some red onion sets to.

Excuse me while I go off to read another thread... I may be back to update the list

PS: I was supposed to get a 3x5mtre patio put in this autumn... There are now 3 new beds instead!

Well, my papaya seedlings all died.

I've bought some butter bean seeds (true butter beans, not the giant white runner beans), which I'm going to give a go. And I'm putting in an asparagus bed this year.

Also, I'm going to Japan at the end of April, and intend to bring back some seeds (you can bring up to 5 commercial seed packets into the UK from non-EU countries), including winged bean seeds, which I fancy trying. They need a warmer climate than we have, really, but I liked the look of them so I thought I'd give them a punt.

haha that sounds like how I got most of the seed packets in my massive seed box! I blame all of you, with the warmest of intentions

I'm trying Southern Giant Mustard Greens, this year - for stir frying when young, then later the rest to go in the compost bins. It's also supposed to deter weeds according to the Nepalese folks on the allotments... all sounds good to me
