I've got quite a few things new to me this year, but I suspect not new to others!

It's my 3rd year, 2nd full year and finally finding my feet a bit, though still over-ordering on everything:

Tomatoes - trying quite a few new ones this year before trying to settle on less next year (Paul Robeson, Caspian Pink, Noire de Crimea, Crimson Crush) - have about 17 varieties in theory I will grow though suspect I won't have room.

Brussel Sprouts, Broccoli. Leeks and Carrots I will all try this year.

Have ordered some Chickpeas which might be ambitious.

Squash trying for the first time Uchiki Kuri, Crown Prince and would love to actually be able to grow some Butternut Squash successfully - have 3 varieties to try.

Also hoping to get some chickens but not sure that counts for this thread!

\\ Panic will set in mid-year when I realise I don't have room for everything and decide spacing guidelines are best ignored

I've got Greek Gigantes again, loved them and they did really well even up here in the Highlands. Plus, the slugs don't seem to touch the young plants at all! Whereas the runner beans got munched to biits and I had to resow.

Anyway, new for me this year is aubergines. I've discovered Palestinian/Lebanese food is completely delicious and uses a lot of them, so I got some Black Beauty from Real Seeds. A new kind of kale/mustard cross caught me eye as well, also from Real Seeds called Golden Frill, which can be used as salad greens or a cooked veg.

Nice to hear from you BW. I had to look up the Gigantes beans and may give them a try myself.

I grew Gigantes about 3 years ago and, for the 2 following years, they grew back from the roots in spring! In other words, they seem to be perennial.
I cut them down this winter, leaving the roots undisturbed and I'm hoping they'll grow again this year.

Maybe we should try a Gigantes competition...

Put me down for loofah. I have visions of going to local Farmers' Market with them cut the up into sponges-on-a-rope and selling them to visitors.

(Visitors are considered part of the crop rotation in these parts)
I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."

I really want to grow loofahs, but they aren't really an outdoor container garden kind of crop. One day...

Looks like I’ll be doing a bit more experimenting, thanks to some swapping!
Chicory and globe carrots added to the list ;-)
