Rhubarb - what now?

Probably a silly question, but in spite of GYO instructions "Cut away old leaves at the end of the growing season once the top growth has died back" I'm still not sure what to do. Cut away the yellowing leaves and leave the stalks? Remove the wilting stalks too? My husband sowed seeds in 2018 but didn't note the variety. The plants grew so vigorously that we ate a little in spite of all the warnings not to, but I'm still hoping to get another good crop next year.

Hopefully by now it has established crowns, you can take away the stalks and leaves. Give it a good feed before next spring

Its sounds like its gonna be now hard to kill...

If you feel the need then clear away the dead / yellowing leaves.

Or do what seems to be traditional and just leave it alone - for better crop chuck a bit of something on i (compost / chicken poop / whatever)

Rhubarb is IMHO a weed in the right place and right time - think it might be something from the russian steppes originally - takes quite a lot to kill it off

(I have managed to kill one plant off once though.. but Ihave one timperly early that produces from Feb to Sep so I'm not totally rubbish)

I covered mine in chicken manure and straw... grew like mad this year

I normally leave mine but when the leaves go yellow and all over the place like yours, I just neatly push them and curl them to cover the base/crown. Sort of a bit of protection and gives nutrients back too I imagine.

Thanks everyone - it sounds as if I don't need to worry too much. I'll curl the leaves over as Dynamite suggests and then find something to mulch them with later on.

I just leave mine. The leaves die and ultimately rot in-situ. Never had any problems with crown rot or anything doing things that way.
