My lovely (non-english-speaking) neighbouring plot holder gave me this bundle of leaves and muttered something about "zuppa"(soup, i assume).

    But what is it...?

I think Par-cel has curled leaves, like curled parsley while soup celery/celery leaf has the flat leaves of flat leaf parsley and celery...................confused?

I grow leaf celery. It still has the same hollows and ridges on the stalk as normal celery, so that's an easy way to distinguish.

It smells of celery. I'm going to try some in the bean-based concoction that i'm doing today.

It's massively wilted overnight, so i've popped it in some water to see if it perks up

It looks like Kintsai which has a strong celery taste and smell. If you use it in soup/broth you only need a very small amount, maybe a couple of leaves.

It looks to me rather like lovage which smells like celery and a quick search found several soup recipes for it. Lovage has a hollow stem and mine is still growing well currently

Well, I still don't know what it was, but it was blooming lovely in a beam stew.

Homegrown beans, rosemary and garlic, carrots and herb a gift from next door, onions 50/50, tomato was shop bought - annoyingly there is home-grown pomadoro in the freezer - should have used that.

                        Served with home grown broccoli.

Where is Kintsai from? Italian inspiration sounds more likely.

Any know the Albanian for "that was amazing, what was it and how do you grow it?" And be available for translation of the answer...
