Potatoes,I lived on baked potatoes when I was younger,I’d only have to buy cheese or barter some of my lovely large potatoes for some cheese somebody’s made,if there was no shops.

If it was on how proud I was of them, when I grew them this year, then squash / Pumpkins.

For taste - Broad beans. Thrown in a pan with diced smoked bacon and served on sourdough for an early summer breakfast, yes please!!

Wherever I've lived from the tiny terrace garden we had when I was a little'un - there have always been runner beans. So easy to grow and usually a good harvest with very little outlay or work involved. My favourite vegetable

I would have to say tomatoes would always be top of my list.
Onions, all types would be a close second.
          We use loads of both.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

For me it would be onions, they can boiled, fried or baked, and you can have them for breakfast, dinner or tea

For some bizarre reason I’m actually playing by the rules so I’ve only chosen one thing.
Nothing wrong with pumpkins. They’re a very close second on the grow list

You've just reminded me I need to sow my Sutton and Aquadulce broadies.

Winter squash or mangetout. It's hard to decide which.

                      What rules?
Chillies and pumpkins are both fruits (because they contain the seeds of the next generation). Confusing inniti!

Sort of split here, if it were to help feed me and survive, then starch like tatties would be top, pink fir apples or rooster.
If it were just for taste and versatility, then possibly Sweetcorn, eaten fresh(raw) or on a Barbie with a drizzle of lime juice or frozen to go in soups/stews.

For survival it would be leafy greens.

For superior taste over anything you can buy in the supermarkets it would be tomatoes.
