Please forgive my ignorance fellow gardners,,,i have just had my first year as an allotmenteer....good time was had by all except for the flooding in my part of the world...but hey ho thats life.....i have had a few successes one of which was the 'squashes'...i have ornamental ones(knerled and knobbly)...stripped ones which look like a small marrow in the shape of a bun...small yellow ones and a nice light coloured one..about the size of a mango...i want to know if i can eat all that i have described and are they ready to pick?..

By ornamental I assume you have gourds.
I believe these are not edible.
    Ornamental being a slight clue.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

I don't think I would be tempted to eat them either. Bit like ornamental peppers, some of them are actually poisonous, so unless you know the exact variety, and the seed packet states that they are edible I would use them for decoration only.
