Seed sowing thread 2020

Just sowed some Yolo Wonder sweet pepper seeds in pots in greenhouse propagator.

Kudos to Premier Seeds and Amazon. We decided yesterday tea-time to grow them; ordered on-line; they arrived today lunch-time; and are now sown. All for £1.49.

Lemongrass, Caribbean blend chillies, cherry tomato mix, and custard apples - all in the propagator, with space for more!

I can't grow more than one or two chilli plants this year, and probably not many tomatoes either, so I can't sow enough seeds to be sure of getting one of everything in the mixes. So I'll just have to wait and see what I get at the end.

Of course, I am madly sowing seed and chitting potatoes, but only have a couple of small bags of potting compost, my own vermicompost, and a small amount of old compost from my containers last year, so my growing plans may yet come to nought. I was hoping Lidl were going to have some compost in soon, as they are only 10 minutes walk away and will be cheaper than the further away B&Q.

Intrigued by the custard apples, what seeds are these?

They are saved from a fruit I ate in Autumn 2018.

We were discussing them here, so I thought it was time to give them a try.

I don't know if mine are the tropical or subtropical ones, so even if they sprout, I may never get a plant out of them, and I'm definitely not expecting fruit!

Oh. that reminds me, I started a couple of avocado pits too (one in compost, one in water).

If I'm sowing carrots soon how do I keep fly off them? I've got a 3ft wall I could put containers on, is that high enough?

At least 2 ft high is the recommendation tho I can't speak from personal experience as I net them.

Is environmesh the right kind of net? Sorry. I've never tried growing carrots!

environmesh is he right stuff, should last quit a few years - you could try some on the wall as well may be to see how they do.

There's different size meshes, make sure you get one that says it will keep out carrot root fly.
