  • Lettuce Multi-Leaf Salanova Descartes

Please can someone explain why the seed is so expensive and not widely available?
    Also - is it cut-and-come-again?

Perhaps because it is a commercial variety and it is a registered trade name so the owners can charge what they like and say where it is sold.

whoa, I am happy with my mixed leaves from WIlkos - thats quite steep price and guess they likely F1 as well

Looks like they've been bred for the commercial grower who wants to cut a whole head at a time and use a specially designed gadget to cut all the identical size and shape leaves off at once so they can be used in salad bags that are sold at vastly inflated prices and stay fresh for a day.
Give me random shape leaves grown 30 seconds away from my salad bowl everyday.

Appreciate the cost comments was just curious how good the seeds may be.

Although I've grown for a number of years it's been a bit haphazard hopefully the allotment will change that. I have certainly sown more now then ever before

I think I have about 7 different packets of lettuce leafs etc so I'm sure I'll get by

I pick a few lettuce leaves every day for lunch but I couldn't see myself paying that much.
