  • I'm Back ....... Miracles do Happen!!!

    Hi there folks

Apologies for the strange message title but miracles really do happen, let me elaborate.

On 9th January having been out with my partner and dropping her off back home (we have our own houses and don't intend to sell one before you ask), I and my new dog called Jack set off back home. Jack is a rescue dog and a Lakeland Terrier cross that was secured on the back seat in a harness and I've now had him 9 months.

Whilst travelling back we neared a notorious traffic island called the Hobby Horse Roundabout (named after the pub near it) and I proceeded to turn right driving onto it after checking it was safe, no traffic was visible anywhere and the time was 23:57.
Next thing I remember was a paramedic next to me (I thought it was someone who had jumped in the passenger side trying to rob me), doing something and I told him to get out my car, he explained who he was, that I'd been in an accident and had been knocked out.
The rest of the evening is sketchy but police were involved, the road was closed off and my car, a 66 plate Ford Fiesta had been totalled with the rear offside wheel ripped off in the collision. The National Express coach that hit me had to be recovered and so did my car. The police eventially gave me and Jack a lift home and dropped me there, don't even go into why they didn't insist I go to hospital but I still need answers about their actions that night.

Apart from all that happening I'm almost recovered and car shopping after being paid out for my poor car, hopefully I'll be back to tending my three allotments and be more active on here as a result. Onwards and upwards from now on (that first week after the collision was a blur also, had concussion effects and double vision for the first 7 days), got seed potatoes chitting and onion sets still to plant but with the weather I don't expect I could do much digging anyway.

Phew now you know so I'll see you on the forum from now on.

Only 1 typo, really good for me lol.

welcome back muddy boots, pleased your ok,it is indeed a miracle, that roundabout has had loads of accidents, peep realizing they in the wrong lane, and swapping without looking, must admit,it can be very confusing,as to what lane you need,we live not far from there, thrummy, the overhead instruction gantry seems to be a bit high,it could maybe benefit from lane layouts board further down the road,as a better warning to get into the lane you want,is always a nasty bother with an accident, you have my sympathy,

Wow. Very odd in case of concussion or loss of conciousness not to be taken to hospital for a check. Sure you didn't threaten to put VC on their backs unless they took you home?????

Seriously though, clearly an alarming incident, glad it wasn't so much worse. Spot of gardening could be just the ticket, they do say it is conducive to good health. Just don't go overboard!

Welcome back MB, what an horrific story. I’m glad that you and Jack are better now, I would definitely pursue with the police as to why you weren’t brought to hospital to be checked out, you could have had a blood clot or anything. Your concussion spell the following week is proof positive. Enjoy your allotment visits.

What a scary event. You must be relieved to be out of the weird experience that you went through and hopefully are feeling much better now. Have fun chitting your potatoes and getting back into the norm of things.

If a paramedic was involved, may be they advised home was better than the local hospital at that time of night.

I'm so sorry to hear what you've been through! It's worrying they didn't take you to hospital. Have you been there to be checked out since then?

Welcome back - it's good to have you back

Thanks for the kind words and welcome back folks, feels good to be alive tbh.

Was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary the following afternoon for an x-ray on my 'hurting like hell' shoulder and to be checked over with my symptoms from the head injury. They managed to find the one brain cell was still there although slightly stunned, no broken bones just alot of soft tissue damage.

Had my eyes tested after the vision turned back to normal as my reading glasses didn't work very well, it strangely turned out the knock on the head had improved my vision slightly which the optition said can happen. Needless to say the £400 bill for new glasses has been sent to the solicitors appointed by my insurance company as part of my injury claim. I have also been having physio on my shoulder again paid for by the insurance company and being charged to them.

Turns out the coach driver lied to the police and claimed I had pulled out in front of him onto the island, then proceeded to tell his insurance company I braked violently in front of him on the island which is why he hit me. I sent my dashcam footage (it recorded the accident plus the voices outside my car afterwards for some time until turned off) to AXA who after reviewing it phoned me to tell me that they regard me to be 100% blameless and they are demanding they provided the coaches dashcam to prove they wern't at fault and if they still insist I was at fault they are prepared to take court action against them. I'll let them fight that one themselves but AXA are now talking to the solicitor direct so they don't prejudice my injury claim.

Just posting a picture of my car so you can see what the coach did hitting me at about 70mph for the curious, my car was pristine upto that point.
