I've just sown purple stripe aubergines today, from a seed swap - thank you NG

Farmers long is the other one - F1 variety that I got from my brother for my birthday.

"If you can grow Aubergines in the UK

Then you be a man my son..."

      Line from Kipling I think

You favorite Chocalate is probably a "Yorkie Bar" 70's size!

the aubergines have been relegated to the gh, i have a blow-away in there so that they are extra protected at night all zipped up.

I don't like them, to eat. Still stuck in 6 seeds of Slim Jim, in an egg carton! No I did not do that on purpose! I like the plants and the look of the fruit.

If last year's experience is anything to go by once they get to this stage they really start to take off. For scale, the big pots are 30cm

Have good root growth in the 9cm pots so have potted on into the final 10lt containers for my patio aubs.
tucked up under fleece in a cold-frame in the sunniest spot in the garden. Planted up the best 10 plants and still have 6 as reserve in the Gh still in 9cm pots. if I have jumped the gun and been fooled by the recent sunshine.

I have been growing aubergines for years, I am in North Devon and I have grown them both in the tunnel and successfully outside. I grew the larger types such as black beauty in the tunnel and smaller fruiting types outside. I have moved since then and I am now in a tiny house with no decent garden, so I am using an allotment and a couple of GHs, I am hoping to have similar success.

I sowed my seeds late January/early February this year, they are doing well, all three types at slightly different stages at the moment. but fingers crossed I get some good crops this year.

I've only just realised that I had my yogurt pots confused, I have 4 aubergine seedlings coming along and not the one. I confused it with a single stunted tomatoe seedling. Nice to know that I have 4 little ones.
I haven't bought compost etc as I normally do, I will make do with what I have already and reuse spent compost etc.

Aubergines going strong in greenhouse. I think I may be 3 or 4 weeks in front of last year. Fingers crossed....

I had a cracking year for aubergines last year (Black Beauty).

I lost the first fruit from each of my plants as they rotted from the top - overcrowding and lack of airflow seemed to be the problem and was soon sorted. I only got a couple off each plant but they were decent sizes.

This year I sowed a bit late - 28/3 so I might struggle.

Our plants are only about 3 inches tall as yet and included in the daily greenhouse hokey kokey.

Well the Aubs. in the cold frame are still under a fleece but seem to be surviving the nights okay. I shall still be leaving the fleece in place for another 4 weeks or so until the night temps start hitting double figures.
