Do we have a thread on the effects of corona virus on gardening?

I too work in the NHS although not front line. I wouldn't be surprised if I catch it, and it doesn't worry me too much. The self-isolation does though. Not for the sake of food - I have enough to last me a month or two, but my mental health would fast decline if I can't go out and socialise. Could we maybe have a virtual pub where we all drink at home but have a chat online?

If you are lucky enough to be able to get pasta and other dried foods, please spare a thought for the less able. We all have elderly people close by and you dont have to know them to be kind.

We have purchased a number of bits that could be used as emergency rations to last an elderly person for a week, it only cost £25. If it is not needed we will give it to the food bank. You dont have to spend anywhere near that though to help.

I have been unable to garden since January so another 6-8 weeks wont hurt.

Out in the garden today, chatting over the fence with our elderly neighbour (leaving a 2m distance!) checking whether they needed anything. She was fine but her kids hadn't bothered asking...

Leaving aside my thoughts on the hysteria...

Those unlucky enough to die due to the virus will not have done so because they failed to ‘garden’ nor will they have starved to death. As a ‘high risk’ individual I will continue to live my life as I always do, socially...

Well we are into partial lockdown! I am luck enough to live in the sticks so there will be lots of gardening done. Looking forward to a magnificent garden this year!!!!!

No cases on Alderney yet, though there have been a case in Guernsey and one in Jersey. No doubt it will get here sooner or later.

In the event of a quarantine, I'm in the fortunate position of having my "allotment" (actually a bit of land borrowed from a neighbour) directly outside my back gate, so no problem accessing my crops, if they've kicked in by then.

We have a number of elderly neighbours, including my mother in law, so we'll be trying to look out for them and help where we can if there is a real crisis.

Like everyone else I'm worried about relatives (my dad is 70 with an underlying heart condition so in the high mortality risk group). Also a lot of my customers have become friends, and many of them are elderly and/or have underlying health conditions.

My own garden may do quite well this year perversely. OH teaches, so if we have lengthy school shutdowns as seems likely we are well placed to home school and keep the garden going! Concerned for the many frontline NHS workers I know....

Partial lockdown here too.
Well stocked with food both for us and livestock. We've been warned this could continue for 4-6 months.

Might go and get some more paint from the corner shop whilst they are still open (more expensive but less likely to meet other peeps) and get on with redecorating the rest of the house once the renovations are finished.

My garden could do with zillions of hours spending on it (repairing fences/hedges) de-mossing lawns, raised beds etc....painting sheds...

My thoughts go to the small businesses who will definitely suffer. The large supermarkets will cope with the hit.

We've closed our gites but fortunately OH can work remotely ...and on the house and garden.
