Not necessarily Jimmy -we're keeping an exceptionally low profile here too in the hope of minimalising our risk of catching or passing it on.

In the longterm the NHS and social care will be in a much better position than they currently are....

I am often horrified by the casual disregard so many people have for our elderly. They are talked down to, they are dismissed, they are overlooked, they have no voice.

These aren't just mindless burdens on society waiting for their deaths. These are people who have lived rich and remarkable lives. Who have raised families and fought wars. Who have gone before us and given us so much. Who are an army of grandparents helping to raise the next generation. Who are contributing actively to the economy through spending and by allowing workers access to free childcare. Who bring wisdom and reflection. Who are spoken repositories for our history.

These are people about to be swept up in a tragedy.

I'm not sure if your comments say a lot about the kind of person that you are, or if you are actually (as someone high risk) just really, truly terrified and trying to bluster your way through. If it's the latter, you don't need to bluster here. If it's the former, well... I'm sorry for whatever made you that way.

On the lines of being a perverse old bugger (might as well own it) - I have been wondering if the current shutdown of a lot of tourist activities, ie air travel etc could come to be widely regarded as a dress rehearsal for the sort of measures to tackle a climate emergency those worried about it have been advocating.

There's no doubt in my mind that shutting down on a lot of non-essential activities such as foreign holidays will mean a drop in the amount of pollution etc we humans generate between us - whether most people would actually support such a change in lifestyle when it comes to how it impacts them the effect on the tourist industry et al. remains to be seen - my guess is that green campaigners will find that it is not that easy a case to make.

BTW I will be 65 this year and don't go out or travel much, though I do still drive.

Since I'm in an age group that may soon be told to stay at home, and, thus, my Yellow sticker shopping trips will be curtailed, I remembered the Wartime rationing thread. https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...se_100323.html

Maybe time to start thinking on these lines again....................unless, anyone knows whether you can place an online order for "Yellow sticker items only"..

Going to be plenty of kids around with time on their hands VC, and they seem to be at very low risk from the virus - so taking that together with the fact that chimney sweeps no longer need as many little 'uns as they did in Victorian times, when you were just an egg. I'd say a "yellow sticker children's army" of super shoppers is what's needed :-)

Well if you're a current Ocado customer (new customers need not apply atm!) then they have 'flash sale' items towards the end of the checkout procedure

Our local Tesco delivery drivers (other supermarket deliveries available) are already unpacking shopping into boxes or bags those who need to self isolate are leaving outside.
                          Another happy Nutter...

We are waiting to see what happens with the schools. I work in nursery, DD is at primary and DH is secondary teacher.

I am more than happy for DD and I to unschool but I think they’ll be setting work. We have plenty everyday learning we can do, especially in the garden.

I need to order some seeds. Have been waiting for Lidl to get there’s in but as of Friday they still weren’t in and we are fine not to shop for a while.

My folks are now both in their 80s and live 4 hours away. At least they live somewhere they can get food etc delivered - unlike here. My mum will miss all her social activities but they’ve plenty to do to keep occupied at home.

Lidl here have had seeds for the last few weeks, and other gardening stuff for around a fortnight. If your local Lidl has nothing yet, maybe they aren't getting anything?

They always have before and don’t have much in the way of local seed selling competitors.
