Whenever I have called at our allotments recently there are a few people around......all well spread out........behaving sensibly. Some older people really struggled initially but I think the seriousness of the situation has got through to all of them now.
An allotment close to ours has a couple of children who usually ride around the site on their bicycles but their parents have now confined them to their own plot.
I will happily chat to neighbours (at a safe distance and for a short time). Some of them haven't spoke to another person in days.

I really feel for the older generation and those who don't see many . Allotments , the garden gate, corner shop have been their lifeline of chat for many years.

Come on everyone - be nice. There's enough to cope with in the world without having to read arguments on the Vine.

In order to diffuse what is clearly becoming an emotive discussion I have modified or removed some posts. If people cannot be more thoughtful about what they post then other actions within the forums rules may have to be applied. People are clearly in a difficult situation with the current regulations restricting our activities, but this is not the place to vent your anger. First and foremost this forum must remain a place where people can visit without being made to feel uncomfortable, please show respect in all sides of a discussion.

We're still going to plot, taking care to wipe everything down as we go, our plot is in corner so we're at a safe distance, the communal paths are wide. It's never busy, even now. Don't see many people on the way at the best of times either. It's a mile from the house, down back streets.

Have been to two shops in the last week. I think if people are sensible then no one need suffer too much inconvenience; it's when people adopt the attitude they're going to carry on as normal that you get problems.

To be fair, my life hasn't really changed much haha. Never went out, don't socialize. It's work, shop, home, allotment for me much of the time anyway. It's just a much nicer trip to work these days! Silver linings.

The creative one has fashioned a wooden peg thing for me with a notch in it so I can turn the water on and off at the allotment without actually touching the tap. Last week I tried it out to water my pea seedlings. Just the job. I can also circumvent the gate so no contact there either. However I do find myself being more circumspect about things generally and planning in advance so as to make the most of each visit.
