  • Beans flowering too early?

    Hi all,

I have some dwarf French bean seedlings starting off on my windowsill. They're about 4-5" high at the moment. I've noticed that some are starting to have flower buds.

What should I do with them? Should I nip the buds off? Should I harden them off sharpish and plant them out? Should I leave them to it?

    Any suggestions appreciated!

    Thanks
    Rob

I plant a few french bean seeds early to grow indoors and I've found that as long as they are in a reasonably sized pot (1 put 3 seeds in a 2l pot) they will happily produce a few small beans if kept on the windowsill. It is potentially still too cold to plant them outside at the moment (it was 2 degrees here when I got up this morning) but you can plant them out when the weather warms up and they should continue to produce some beans. However, if space is limited you may prefer to sow new plants for planting out as these will do better for a main crop than the earlier ones.
