  • Growing Rocket in summer

    Morning,

I've never had much luck with this but get excellent results from autumn sowings and have plenty over winter. And tons of the stuff now. Those plants are on the verge of running to seed so ive sown some more ready for spring / summer but if last year is anything go by they will just bolt before I get anything.

Any tips? Was thinking if maybe growing loads under my runner beans, maybe even on the north side. Might be a bit extreme because they might not actually get any sun once the beans are established. Do love the stuff so want 6-8 nice healthy plants for a good supply.

    Ta

Flea beetle decimates my rocket in summer. I guess it might be ok under fleece but tbh I just plant lettuce instead. Like you I have success with autumn sown.

No sun might actually be your best bet.
It's not just heat and water stress which makes rocket run to seed, it's sensitive to day length, too. Longer days make it flower.

Sounds like Pak choi then. Have great success with that planted in autumn. Don't even bother in spring now. Gonna plant a row of rocket under the north side of my runner beans. Worth a go and will report back.
