Curly kale going to seed

I have about 8 curly kale plants that have been supplying kale all winter since about October last year, now it’s getting a bit scraggy and going to seed. I’ve already removed all the seed shoots last weekend but they have grown back again.
I’m thinking of picking off the useable leaves, cooking them and freezing it for future use, then pulling up the plants and free up the space for potatoes. Any comments or suggestions ?.

Try eating the flower buds. They are like PSB, but better. I insisted my sister took some one year even though she didn't want them. Now she can't wait.

You can also eat the flower shoots, they're similar to sprouting broccoli. I've had quite a few from mine, just pulled them up a couple of days ago.

Yuk - it’s one veg I hate Broccoli

I leave mine to flower (the bees love them) and then to set seed. Some seed I collect and the rest to self-sow.
Often kale will regrow from the stalk anyway.

Its not like the broccoli that you buy in the supermarket. Lots of flavor and I prefer it to asparagus. Steamed with a bit of butter Yummmmmmm. Give it a try!!

It’s that texture of broccoli I can’t stand, looks like I’ll harvest what I can and freeze then I’ll free up space. Might leave 1 or 2 strong plants just so I have some kale until my cabbage or new kale plants are r day for harvesting

If the plants have done well for you, I'd definitely let it go to seed and let some self seed in that place, and save some seed for next year in case the self seeding doesn't take

If they're only going to seed now, you've done well. Mine started flowering in early February, and were dug out and shredded at the beginning of April.

Sounds like a good plan to me. The leaves get smaller and smaller as flower buds are produced. As you hate broccoli, there's no point in waiting for the flower shoots. Whip them out andput the ground to use.
