Sowing Seeds Now

I have been quite delayed this year getting my seeds in... having only sown a couple of weeks ago (indoors in propagators) tumbling Tom's, french beans and cucumbers.

Anyone else sowing this late on still? Do we think there is still sufficient time?

I'm not doing Tom's this yr but have just sown runners, purple beans , turnip, kohl rabi, salads, spinach and cucumber

That makes me feel better thanks. I keep seeing stuff on SM with people already planting out established plants and thought oops I may be a bit late.

I have only started dwarf beans to grow on in the GreenHouse. My runners and French beans for outside are still in their jars.

On Instagram a few weeks back I saw a few that had just planted out their runners - I think it sends out the wrong messages, sorry but half of them jump on the bandwagon and post videos on "how too" without even thinking of the timing. They may be lucky if they live somewhere sheltered - and indeed this April has been fabulous but mid May is early enough for me.

Probably the only thing you'd struggle to get 'fruit' from would be hot chillies like Habaneros, naga's, bonnets, etc. But if you grew them in a greenhouse in a pot that kept the plant smaller and slightly stressed then in a long season I reckon you'd get chillies. Oh and maybe aubergines - but smaller fruiting ones might still be okay as my seedlings are only a couple of inches high and I'd not put them into the greenhouse until mid-May (maybe earlier if the weather - therefore soil - is warm).

I’m midlands and did the majority of my sowings last week. Still getting slight frosts here and not planing to plant anything out till late April/Early May....

I am still to sow loads of stuff, there is plenty of time. Although I am now starting to shuffle pots to create space.

My tomatoes only have seed leaves still and I’m a little further north than you. So you should be ok. Like everyone one has said you’re not to late for beans at all.
Sow everything anyway, it’ll still be fun.

I only direct sow outside due to a combination of space, time and family.
My garlic, shallots, potatoes (half of) and broad beans and some salads are in.
Still to be planted carrots, beetroot, French beans, kale, more salads, spinach, squashes, courgette and more than likely stuff I've forgotten.
I'm just north of Lancaster within a mile of the coast on clay. My soil isn't warm enough yet for planting lots out.

I was thinking about sowing beans today but as it still gets cold overnight I have decided to wait till the end of the month before sowing, I am just going to go out and transplant some leeks, which still seems a bit early, but there was a thread last year discussing growing leeks for using all year rather than autumn/winter, well that's my excuse

I have sown some french beans but will leave runners till the end of the month too precious to waste the seeds.
