  • Lack of germination, am I being impatient??

    Hello Folks

This tray contains, beets, spinach, chard, kohlrabi, turnip, and different lettuce/leaves.

Sowed 8 days ago,I would you have expected at least one thing to germinate by now???

To date they have been sitting outside, I moved them into the cold greenhouse today.

    Any advice much appreciated

Bit cold to expect things to germinate quickly - assuming you are using fresh seed I wouldn't panic for a few more days.

      Cheers Nick

Yes fresh seed and compost, the courgettes cucs marrows were ok inside so will put it down to the cold. Should I leave them in the cold greenhouse?
      Cheers

Join the club,if you have a little dig/look,under the bigger seeds,i bet there are tiny root tails, when i do this,it seems like to much compost on top,but i know i did not,so i think it must be heavy handed with the watering can when sown, jut put a plant label down i side and look, they do seem to be taking a lot longer, but then again, are we expecting to much,JUST because there is a bit of sun,
just seen your 2 post, mine are in a cold greenhouse.

          Hi LD

Hopefully we'll be moaning that we have too much in a few weeks
          Cheers

I give things at least a fortnight before even looking. It is not easy, but a week is never enough. I've got a lemon pip on a propagator that took three weeks to bother to turn green and think about sprouting.

Also, it's easy to say, but trying to not look will improve you chances of seeing something.

Have s look at the link in this Archived Thread https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...ion_93787.html

It'll give you an idea about how long seeds take to germinate at certain temperatures and what the optimum temp is.
I've printed it off and stuck it inside a cupboard door............... a seed wants to grow but we are the once to help it along.

We germinate seeds like those in the house, then once they have they're moved out to an unheated greenhouse.
