  • Different tomato feeds.

    Morning,

So at one end of the cost scale you have wilkos and the other end you have stuff like maxicrop. I guess tomaterite sits somewhere in between. Apart from maxicrop being organic is there much difference? I need to buy about 10litres for this year as I'm going to use it for my chillis too. Used chilli focus last year but the cost of it really adds up when you are using multiple big bottles. 10l of maxicrop is about £45. 10l of the wilkos stuff is about £13. Quite a big difference. You can also buy generic high potash granular feed but not got much experience of that. It needs to be completely soluble in cold water as I have drip lines so probably best sticking to liquid I guess. I do make comfrey tea and seaweed tea as well but it clogs the filter on the pump so I only use it when feeding by hand.

    Ta

Should have said also that both maxicrop and the wilkos stuff makes the same amount of total feed at the stated dilution. 10l is ~3000 litres of food.

I always use the cheapest, but then I'm mean and my other methods are questionable which means I'm not guaranteed any sort of crop whatever fertiliser I buy. I'd rather not have too much money invested in anything I grow, then if it does fail completely my write-off costs are a lot lower.
A gardener who was better than me, and could more or less guarantee a good crop might give you a different answer.

I usually buy mine in Poundland, I then read the label and compared it to Tomorite. Half the price and half the potency, twice the dose for the same effect.
I'll still buy the cheapo as it feels better in my wallet.

Last year I started using Bumper Crop (https://elixirgardensupplies.co.uk/p...urful-flowers/) which I believe is repackaged Solufeed (https://uk.solufeed.com/products/wat...s/solufeed-214). It's actually cheaper to buy from Elixir Gardens instead of direct from Solufeed. You get 1000 litres from 1 kg of powder. Dissolves completely in cold butt water. It has a blue indicator dye which I found useful as I sometimes forgot if I'd put any in the watering can.
