    I'd say it's way too early to plant out French beans.
    French beans are much less hardy than runners.
    You need to keep them frost free...mid-end of May?

      You need to keep runner beans frost-free, too. The slightest lick of frost will kill either of them.

      But risk of frost isn't necessarily the main issue. Even above frosty temperatures, they just don't like the cold (French and runner beans). If night time temperatures gets too low they will sulk and not grow at all for a couple weeks, and if they are too low consistently then they can just give up the ghost.
      In certain parts of teh country, that consideration is far more important than "last frost". Where I live, we last had a frost almost three weeks ago. I think it is very unlikely we will have another one now until at least late November. But it is still too early for me to be planting out tender crops like beans and courgettes, as the nights are still chilly, and the plants really don't like that.
