MrsT its a cucumber, either ashley or marketmore i think is the variety. I have habit of losing labels. next year i think i will tape them to the pots.
Any ideas on cheap mealworms? Wilko are making killing off me.

Just found this thread and I love it! You've done a fab job with all your garden Ghexton.
As for cheap mealworms I don't think there is such a thing, I ended up breeding my own, was fun for a while

Re Mealworms - It's easy, buy a batch of worms then all you need is a container and feed. I used an old fish tank with a lid (they wiff a bit) put an inch or so of porridge oats in the bottom add mealworms. Give them fresh food such as potato, green leaves like cabbage or lettuce etc as they need the water content. Change the oats regularly when you see a build up of dust (poo) at the bottom and replace their fresh food as and when they've used it all up. After a few weeks the worms pupate into little beetles which then get a big jiggy and make baby worms and so the cycle goes on

I'd recommend giving it a go especially if you have somewhere out of the way to keep them. It was fun doing it and I saved a fortune.

Hello peanut

I currently have 2x 4no quad grows full of toms ect sitting on the grass along the fence. Which is pain to look after wise regards cutting grass ect.
So im planning to remove a big bamboo plant from the flower bed and hopefully acquire some free slabs to out the grows on.
This will make tending them a little more manageable and ill get the grass space back.

I do like the idea of giving the mealworms ago, im not sure the good lady will though.

oh and also how will i know when the melons are ready?
is it okay perched on the edge of the bucket like that? will it need support im reluctant to tinker with it tbh.

The Melon might fall off it's perch, the traditional way is to support them in netting, I have used an empty flower pot in the past, I used a fair bit of guessing when deciding when to pick, what variety is it?

To be honest im not sure, again i didnt label efficiently.
the seeds i got from more veg are:
Melon Delicious
Melon Hearts of Gold

Thinking its prob delicious because it yellow.

burnie ohhh they both looked green on web.
Maybe it will change colour? put an upside down flower bucket underneath hopefully will do the job of support.

I would use one of those wall brackets as a slug bait station with a cover to stop the birds taking the dead bodies.
The spider might pinch the odd bee but at the same time it will eat pests.

Plot70 they are used as bird feeders, so id want the birds to take them ha!
I think ill look at some beer traps or something.

This weeks update:
Having a tomato issues on my outside ones, ive left these to do as they like and they have gone extremely bushy.
I thinned the ones in the GH and not had they dreaded brown stem issue.
Is this blight? can i fix it they have green toms on, will they turn red and be able to eat them still?

I only have 2 plants here, and i really want a crop this year.
Love the soup!

Ones leaves have gone all yellow, what is this?
Do i need to get some more seeds?
