  • mushroom logs

Hello - I want to buy one of these as a present, and wonder if anyone can recommend a good supplier/mushroom type. Despite being obsessed with growing everything, I'm oddly not tempted myself, but...
Thank you for your fungal tips

Sorry I only tried one of the boxes and that was a disappointment, so I never tried again, sure someone will be along who can help.

From all I've heard, they're not worth bothering with. Chances are they'll give you nothing at all, and even if you get get mushrooms, it won't be many and not worth the money you paid for it.

I had no success with logs either -and I researched thoroughly as how to create the best conditions.
I've had more success with boxes tbh.

I grew mushrooms myself for a while, on chopped straw, doing everything myself from start to finish.
I had fairly reasonable success (it's not terrifically difficult), but I stopped in the end, partly because although it's not difficult, it is pretty time consuming and dull work, but mostly because I eventually realised that the "flu" I kept getting every time the mushrooms were ready was actually an allergy to oyster mushroom spores. Terrible, it was. Bad phlegmy cough, sneezing, headache, aching joints and muscle, high temperature, all over body weakness. Just like flu, really.

I saw a stall at a Seedy Sunday, never used them before but may do in the future. Here is the link to the place:
