  • cherry tom variety?

    Hi All,

Someone gave me a few cherry toms from their allotment to save some seed from. They have a sort of 'nipple' on the bottom, the tomato comes to a point, rather than being a smooth circle.

Does anyone know what this variety is?

    thanks.

Berry has this shape. It's F1 however.

There are several around that have this shape - "mini plums" - and they are virtually all F1 varieties. Try it, but don't depend on getting exactly the same.

Stupid question perhaps, but does the person who gave you the toms not know what they are?

I grew a tomato variety like that this year. It was'nt a cherry but the fruits were small with a pointed end. The name was Kimberley. Hope this might help you.

thanks Bramble, I've found a picture of the Kimberly variety and it does look like the one I've been given. (I'm afraid the perspn who gave it to me didn't know what it was - tsk!

Anyway, I've saved some seed but I guess I'll have a go next year and see if anything comes up.

              thanks everyone.

Trouble with home saved seed is that it doesn't always produce the same plants as it came from, specially if they were F1 varieties. However it is always worth trying, you may produce something even better.

Kimberley is not an F1 variety so you will probably be ok with it. It has a lovely flavour and is quite productive.

My garden pearls had pointy ends... they came out of a proper seed pack, not home saved.
