  • Will this work

    Hi all.
I have just been offered a large roll of hessian. Apparently, the builders use it to keep frost off things
The question is: "will it work the same as fleece" apart from being a beige colour and probably a bit coarser in texture.
Your thoughts from the vine would be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Dave

I wouldn't expect it to have the same thermal insulation properties as fleece, but it would probably help a bit.

It's dark of course - It would cut more light out than fleece. However, I think it's often used to wrap some exotics, like tree ferns, to stop them getting frosted in the centre and rotting off. It would also be good to wrap containers in.

Hello Vegnut, the other problems will be, it won't let much light through so can't be left on growing plants for long, and when it gets wet it will weigh a fair bit as well.
But so saying that it will keep a fair amount of frost out.
And you could make your own traditional potatoe sacks as well.
        God bless all of us.

It will be a lot heavier even when dry,

If you mean the stuff that's about 1/8th of an inch thick, clearish and a bit like polystyrene I think it would work short term but not let enough light through long term!
