    Dear Grapes,

I am trying to experiment with all kinds of micro veggies ( sprouts ).
So far have tried mung bean, soya beans and adzuki beans, sprouted in big glass pot ( 1.5 lt ).
I am wondering if any grapes ever tried sprouting corn, fenugreek, alfalfa, brassicas, squashes... ?
I did google about it, but they were articles from sprouting seeds company ( everything sounds tasty there ).
I really wish to hear from the Grapes who done it and any advice about it are very wellcome. Thanks in advance.

I read, somewhere, that sprouted seeds fed to elderly rats actually reversed the aging process.(if you can believe it!)
I dare say any seeds from edible veg/flowers etc.can be sprouted and eaten. It would have to be a trial and error game to find which ones taste nice.
    Not much help,am I?!!

i think the general rule is if you can eat the foliage of the adult plant, you can eat the sprouted seed. dont think id fancy squash...

I've sprouted alfalfa - gorgeous, tastes like fresh peas! I've also tried basil and linseed. The latter, however, had very sticky mucous around the seeds and I never really managed to get it beyond this stage - it just got smelly and I threw it out. I do love alfalfa in the winter to add to a sandwich. I aso sprout mung beans but unless you are prepared to eat the green outer shell (I do, it's not unpleasant) you don't get them white like the ones you buy.

I can also recommend Alfafa - lovely taste. I haven;t done any for a while, so thanks for the prompt Flummery.

I have just started trying sprouts and had a go at broccoli but as soon as they started to sprout they gave off the dreaded 'greens' smell and we couldn't bring ourselves to try them

Trying fennel at the minute which tastes really nice but is very slow to sprout

Thanks Grapes for giving me great ideas, they sounds great and worth trying ( especially during winter ). I did sprout some mustard before, they do taste not bad ( but the smell is very green indeed ) can't imagine the squashes or sun flowers seeds sprout indeed but they are in the list of the sprouting seeds.
I think the green smell should be much milder if we mix them in salad and add some herbs in the dressing ( will be trying it too ).
I bought some alfalfa sprouts some times ago, they do taste very nice. OH's granny suggest some corn sprout, she said it taste very much like fresh corn but not as sweet ( will tried it very soon ). I will have to think of someway to sprout the smaller seeds like alfalfa...
Any idea if it also work for sprouting coriander ?

                Many thanks,

Was reading this the other day then while I was in our local Booth's supermarket this morning I noticed they had a whole range of organic seeds for sprouting. Bought some alfalfa to have a go! Presume they will be expensive (everything else in there is!) at £1.29 a pkt.

Alas- we have no Booths 'round here. Mind you i got a packet of Suttons alfalfa seeds at the Range for £1.49 for 40g (rip off i know-but I was desperate!) so £1.29 isn't too bad.

I started sprouting in the autumn. Peas, alfalfa and mung beans are loved by the family. I like fenugreek but no one else does. I have some broccoli started three days ago, looks ok at the moment. Local GC has 50gm packets for £1.20.
