An overwintering broad bean type such as 'The Sutton' can be planted now as long as the variety you choose is suitable for overwinter use, the beans can be sown directly or planted in modules first and then transferred. You could also plant garlic and overwintering onions now from set. There is still quite alot you can plant and grow to use up ground space but garlic and onions will tie up ground space untill early next summer so make sure you have enough space!

Now is a good time to plant fruit trees, bushes like blackcurrants & gooseberries, and cane fruit like raspberries and blackberries. You can buy them bare-rooted (dormant) at this time of year, which often works out cheaper than ones grown in containers. The ground they're to be planted in needs to be well weeded, reasonable drainage and with some good compost or rotted manure mixed into the planting hole.
I'm in the middle of preparing the ground for my raspberry bed - I only took over my lotti in Feb so this is my first fruit planting, I'm embarrassingly excited
