  • Late summer sown peas - how long can they last?

    Afternoon peeps,

I sowed some peas the last week in July, and they are giving us fresh peas at the minute.

There are still some flowers, and a good few pods have formed. I harvested whatever looked like it night be big enough to eat on saturday (some reasonable but most very small as I expected). But there are still a good load of flat pods on the bushes.

I will leave them for another 2-3 weeks before attempting to harvest to allow them to swell a bit. But realistically, how long are they likely to keep going? And will the frost kill them off? If frost is threatened, do I need to go and harvest beforehand, or will htey just stop growing and I can harvest the following weekend?

Sorry for the questions, but I have never had peas this late before - only ever had room for a full summer crop in a tub.

Hi, i think the frost should kill them. If you harvest them regularly, you should be able to maximise the yield.

I did the same and have harvested a good crop with lots of flat pods and flowers. However, last nights frosts have floored them so they are now in the compost bin.
