  • How to grow Barley

    Hi everyone,
I fancied having a go at growing some grains, so when I saw a box of barley for sale, mixed in among packets of seeds, I went ahead and bought it. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell me when or how to sow it. It just says that it's a 'mid-early' barley. Um? does anybody know, or have an educated guess, as to when I should sow it?

    Thanks

It is most likely a spring barley but without variety names etc I can't be sure. The problem you have is that if it is a spring barley, you're okay, however - if it is a winter barley, it needs to go in last month, and also requires a period of vernalisation (cold spell where the temperature drops below a certain level for a certain period of time) for it to develop properly. Sorry can't be more help. Could the shop where you bouhgt it provide more info ?

Thanks, Rat. I bought them at a show, but I'll try and track the company down on the web.

Thanks, Sarah. reading through that article made it clear that I do have spring barley.
