I am sure we had a frost mid May last year because everyones potatoes got hit (apart from mine!) and we lost some gooseberry buds. I really must keep a diary about the allotment.

Flicking from one type of Tomato to another... I'm trying to regain my dining table of seedling trays this weeknd and wondered if I could plant out my tomatos yet under drinks bottle cloches, or is it waaay to early to be thinking of it? I'm planning to sowe direct into the ground not grow bags....?

I'm thinking the same - everything seems to be being taken over by plants waiting to go out!!!

I put out my Butternut and Kabocha seedlings today under my recycled cloches and it got me wondering if my toms could go out too...

perhaps I'll give it a try with just one tomato plant rather than risk the whole lot - mine have been in an unheated mini-greenhouse for a week or so and are doing fine - think they'd be ok outside if it weren't for sneaky Jack Frost!

Looks like windowsill jungle for the next week or two then.

my tomatoes are only about 7cm high at the moment and I am so tempted to plant them into the hanging baskets but they will just perish as I did that last year.

I'm so impatient! But resisting the temptation this year and waiting for them to get a lot bigger.

Shortie if your toms are fairly well established & heallthy looking I would think they'll be O.K. under bottle cloches now in the South. I'm not putting mine out yet but only because they're still tiny & weedy & we live in the 'frozen' North( actually boiling at the moment but I don't trust it!)

You know what SueA, you're right and I've decided I'm going to plant them out, but need to re-grow my stock of pop bottles as I used all mine up on my squashes. Might have to ask the neighbours (mind you, I've already done that for glas jars for my chutneys etc this year - she says hopefully expecting enough crop to get a surplus!)
