Overwintered plants are fine, because they don't give any unfair advantage. Sure Mrs D has been able to post an entry sooner than most, but there is plenty of time for everyone. To the best of my knowledge, there is no evidence to say an overwintered, second season jalapeno will produce either larger or smaller pods than a new first season plant.
So while Mrs D basks in glory now, she knows well that there are over a hundred plants growing around the world and it is only a matter of time before one of them produces a larger pod... or is it.
