    Have now tried eating the Rooster(poor b*gger!) and wasn't particularily impressed!
    Not the worst tattie I've tasted but to my mind nowhere near the best. Because I've still got the other small pack, I'll probably still give them a go tho!
    Desiree still winning up til now with PFA second!

      I am looking forward to giving Edzell Blue another go this year as the couple we managed to scavenge from the blight were gorgeous. Also recommend Winston, lovely shaped spuds which make tasty baby bakers. Will try Golden Wonder again just cos I am determined for my menfolk to taste a superb jacket potato which 'pops' with floury gorgeousness - bring on the butter!! Oh, and I am chitting some Wilja that started sprouting in the sack - anyone want a couple?
      Happy Gardening,

        Yep, Winston is on my list, as the ones that won the virtual show looked really good! I've also looked at Roseval and Vivaldi!

          I've tried loads of different potatoes lately (eating rather than growing) to try & find a match for Desiree in the mashing department, but because I like a 'waxy' potato rather than a 'floury' there just isn't anything comes close. The supermarket standard red potato is usually Romano, and I don't like them at all - they have to be cooked 5 mins longer than Desiree or they're lumpy (waste of electric!!), and they don't have any flavour except what's added with butter/milk & salt. And none of the whites have come close either, plus they're usually 'floury'...
          So, I'm sticking with my Desiree! And my experimentation in flavour etc is all going into my Earlies/Salad spuds!
          I'm doing Harlequin again this year (cross between Charlotte & PFA) because they were gorgeous last year, also doing Anya, Mimi, Charlotte, & Ulster Sceptre which are free from T&M.

              I know nothing about them, except what it says in the catalogue;
              Sustained popularity since the 1960s as a first early particularly as an early under glass or under polythene or fleece. White skinned, pale cream waxy fleshed flavoursome tubers
              .

              So they'll be my first in, then Charlotte & Anya, then Harlequin, then Desiree.
