Buy Bhut Jolokia Chilli Seeds, the hottest chilli in the world!

I got some from here for my boyfriends christmas present - the guy's very quick at getting things dispatched I would deffinately recomend him.
    Best love

Good luck. If you live in the North of England/Scotland I would think you would need at least an unheated greenhouse or polytunnel. If you have heating available, then all the better - you can start the seeds earlier. They do need a lot of light and absolutely no frost.

You can get scotch bonnet type chillies from most seed companies, normally in a variety of colours, so there's plenty to choose from!

Ideally you will want to start the seeds somewhere warm (and preferably with light), a south facing windowsill is ideal, or any windowsill if you have a heated propagator, but remember not to draw the curtains around them and trap them in the cold between the window and the curtain! I wouldn't want to sow the seeds until March really, esp if you are far north, unless you have a heated geenhouse.

If you don't have a greenhouse you can still grow them on a sunny windowsill or in a conservatory. And during the height of summer (if we get one this year!) if you have a sheltered sunny spot in the garden they can go outside, but remember to bring them inside once the night temps start dropping in September.
I love chillies - good luck!
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted

          hi!
We plant our chillie & pepper seeds in late Feb or early March on the windowsill indoors in the house - they need to be started early so you have a longer fruiting season.
If you have no greenhouse or polytunnel you can grow a couple of plants inside your house on a big sunny windowsill and put them out when sunny in summer. I got loads of chillies like that!

I'm growing some chillies up here in Glasgow. They are being grown inside and are already starting to grow. Good luck with your own.

Hello Lou, chillies will do fine on a sunny windowsill .This years Chileman competion is for Jalapeno so could try that and join in with us.
Here's the link growing chilli peppers thechileman.org and some of mine from last year.

I've got some Early Jalapeno growing in my conservatory (about 3-4" tall now), but I have no plans to enter the competition - last year my cats ate the plants before they could get anywhere big enough to fruit, so just getting some actual chillies this year is enough of an ambition for me!

I'd try 'straightforward' ones, Cayenne-types. Or some of the ones that do well in pots - I'm trying some Apache this year, they germinated at a rate and are growing well (thanks to the seed-swopper!). Look for how long it takes for the plant to fruit, some of the scotch bonnet types take 100 days, which means they need an early start.

Hot Portugal that we grew last year, are easy, quick growers with hot to milder big cayenne-type chillis.

LOOpylou - try Apache. They were my first chilli and set masses of fruit without any problem. I grew them in a greenhouse.
