Unused I mean. I needed a bit of straw for having a go at forcing some rhubarb and mixing with horse doo for mushrooms. Not worth trying to get a whole bale or anything, so I've bought a bag of pet bedding straw. It doesn't say it's been treated in any way, so I assume not but thought I'd just check if anyone knew of an obvious flaw in the plan before I start chucking it around?

Is it ok to use pet bed straw on plants?

Can't see any problems with that at all. I'm sure if it had been treated with anything it would have to state so on the packaging, in case of allergies etc. So go ahead, fling away to your hearts contentRat

The obvious flaw in the plan is the extortionate cost of small pet bedding. Surely there must be some equine establishments in the East Midlands who would be glad to let you have a carrierbag (or several)full of used straw? As for using SPB, it is usualy soft straw with no additives and dust extracted so that the little darlings come to no harm. Your rhubarb will feel like royalty if you use that stuff.I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

Thanks folks
I'm sure I could have got a better deal from a farmer but as I live in the middle of town and don't drive, it was worth buying the pet stuff to save hassleI was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
