  • Onions in troughs

    Hi all
    Do you think it is possible to grow onions in troughs as I want to grow some for showing ?

      Do you mean like planters? I really don't know how deep a soil onions need but would have thought it was worth a try.

        Depends on what sort of onions you want to show, debjay (why do most of my post start with the word 'depends...'!)

        If you want to grow massive onions, then I don't that containers are the way to go - but if you want to do '6 onions on a plate' or whatever the 'pickling onion' type category is, I would think that you'd be ok.

        SOmeone with more experience will be along soon, tho'.

          I always thought that the big show gardeners grew the show onions in pots. I do know that leeks are certainly grown in pots for shows. Not really a lot of difference in growing onions or leeks in a pot I would not have thought.
