What a great website! I've been looking for something like this for ages. I didn't like the suppliers websites as they only told you the good points - never the downsides!
Hmmm - no mention of Pentland Javelin, am I going to be disappointed then, since I just recently got 10 tubers? I also have some Cara (I think!) and some Maris Peer.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with P. Javelin - I've grown them before and liked them, but ran out of space on the order form this year...
My favourite garden centre had approximately 7 million different varieties, all bagged up in varying quantities (which is fab for me - from 65p for 6-8 ish spuds so I didn't end up with far too many ) and as it's my first year attempting pototoes I went a bit goggle eyed
I've ended up with the following selection of first earlies:
Swift (purely based on the fact that GYO mag reckoned they were the fastest cropping first early). Red Duke of York (another GYO mag recommendation, plus they looked fab ) Arran Pilot (purely because my dad remembers loving them)

Oh! Which garden centre, sunnyD? NOT that I'll be needed potatoes (going to Ryton potato day weekend after next) but it's always good to know of a local-ish GC (esp those which coffee and toasted-teacake facilities! )
Do you know how difficult it has been to not buy any spuds so far???

It's 'Lealans Garden Centre' on the Wolverhampton to Bridgnorth road (I think the address is officially 'Shipley' <edit> the postcode is WV6 7EZ </edit>). It's one of those that looks pretty basic, but is very reasonably priced - I love it
(It's also right between two other, posher, garden centres: 'Gardenland' and 'Pavillion', so don't get confused!)
No toasted teacake facilities there I'm afraid, but there is just 100 yards down the road next to the 'Pavillion' garden centre!
Thanks for that, SunnyD - I've driven past it - visited one of the 'posh' ones - saw a load of polytunnel whatsits and thought nothing more of it, but I bet that's it.
