    Planted new potatoes in my tunnel about 2 1/2 ago they were only just starting to chit some hardly at all how long before they will apear abouve ground. Dug one up carefully and it had 4 runners coming off it it about 2 inches long.

    While the potatoes are still underground do i water them

    Don't water unless the soil becomes dry a couple of inches down.
    You should be able to make a fist holding a handful of that soil, and if it stays in one clump when you open your hand, then the soil is damp enough.
    No idea when they will peek above the soil- it's very early, but you are 'down souf' and in a polytunnel!

      Wow, that's early to be planting potatoes. They may be warm enough in t'polytunnel, but I wouldn't have thought there were enough daylight hours yet?

        You're very early, even for Camborne. Just leave them alone they will come through. As for asking how long it will take - how long is a piece of string? Good luck, let us know how you get on.

          Remember to keep them fleeced if it goes down to 4C once they peek above the soil!
