  • Supermarket spuds: who has what?

I know it's not technically advised to grow from these but many people seem to have done so in pots with good success and minimal risk of passing on disease. I know Waitrose have some 'heritage' types, notably Fortyfold, Shetland Black and Red King Edwards, it seems at least some branches of Tesco and Sainsburys have Mayan Gold and I've found Roseval at the Co-op.

It's not like I *need* any more spuds but there's always room for an extra one or two so would be interested to know what might be on offer.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

I have some Wilja sprouting merrily in a sack in the kitchen - fancy some? Could swap you for 2 or 3 of the Shetland Black as they sound quite interesting.

From my Sainsbury, I've already set aside Anya, Charlotte, Rooster and just today added Mayan Gold to my growing collection. I was about to buy Vivaldi when I decided I'd check them out later in case of a sale on them. They had 'Taste the Difference' heritage potatoes but wouldn't specify the variety so I didn't bother. My local greengrocer sells Wilji and Romano but I think I'll give them a miss.

Thanks for letting us know that Waitrose sells Shetland Black. We'll have to compare notes on how our supermarket potatoes are faring when the time comes . BTW Mayan Gold will be labelled Phureja potatoes on the packaging with a small print indicating as Mayan.
