Has anyone got the dvd and could they tell me if it has subtitles for the deaf on? (Look on languages).

Want to rent it but dont know if subtitled and dont want to waste part of my monthly allocation to discover I cant watch it.

Unfortunately Nick, that is not the case. A good amount of dvds are subtitled, but they still remains a proportion NOT subtitled. It is really hard finding out if subtitles are available without looking at the package itself which is why I had hoped someone might already have the dvd.

I try to not rent those without subs, but as the rental sites dont always indicate accurate info, I have to run the risk and hpoe they are. An example this week was Timeline, which I returned as no subtitles were available.

Never mind, I will rent and hope for the best. I just fancied watching it as I liked the series about the two allotments but couldnt follow it with no subs. Kept watching it for any visual tips or inspiration

just used buy it now on ebay to buy one will let you know if it has subtitles when it arrives if no one answer the question before then.

Mine just arrived this morning, have got it on now and have checked for you, it has english subtitles for the hearing impaired.
Just load the dvd wait for the menu and select setup, turn on the subtitles and select resume and it plays with subtitles.

Thanks for the info. I am currently attending lip reading classes and was told by the tutor that all shop bought DVD's have subtitles? The only exception was those freebies given by newspapers, but pressure is being put on them to includes subtitles.

Nick, I would say about 60% of dvds are subtitled depending on the catergory.
I have started a rental scheme so that I can watch programmes and films that I saw the first time round but this time with subs! Great fun!

Your tutor is right in part about the newspaper dvds, but some ARE starting to subtitle hem - the "posh" ones like the Times and Telegraph. Others are very slow in following their example!

I have accumulated a collection of around 600 dvd's having done away with my vcr about 10 years ago so I have a pretty good collection if you want to know if others have subtitles just ask you never know with a collection that large its possible I might have the film you are thinking of hiring so I may be able to advise if its got subtitles.
In case your wondering the collection keeps the kids quiet ( all 8 of them, yes I said 8, just invested in a telly though)

Chris, I will certainly bear that in mind.

Eight kids is unusual, but I am used to large families as Mam is one of seven and dad one of four, and plenty of kids between them too. On mams side I am the oldest of all the grandchildren and great grandchildren, and on dads side I am the youngest! Means a diverse range of ages and despite being an only child myself, I have never been alone!!!!!!!
