Hello I'm new to both the forum and the notion of growing mushrooms. I have searched the web for information on this subject which seems to be a little hit and miss often offering contradicting information.
A cherry tree in my garden died last year and before removing the tree trunk i would like to establish if it would be possible utilise the dead trunk to grow mushrooms. From what i have gathered mushrooms have a liking for hardwood logs and dowels can be bought to impregant 'fresh logs'.
Rather than cutting the tree into logs I would like to grow the mushrooms in the 'insitu tree trunk' which is about 8" in dia - would anyone be able to advise if this method would prove successful?
thankyou in advance
