I have had my allotment for 1 year and things are going well. With potato planting almost upon us I am getting lots of advice from other plot holders. However I am confused one says NO lime and another who grows everything well says lime a few weeks before planting. Any comments please to UN-confuse me

A quick Google search seems to suggest that you DON'T add lime to the soil before planting potatoes...! It's probably best to do a PH test before adding it anywhere on your plot - it may not be needed
Although not fussy about the soil type, the potato prefers a slightly acidic soil, so do not add lime before, during or after planting.
Do not add lime - growing potatoes like a soil pH of just under 6... slightly acidic. ...
.. and do not lime the soil to minimise scab blemishes on developing tubers. ....
Do not add lime; potatoes dislike lime and its presence in the soil appear to encourage scab disease.
No No No
Lime + potatoes = scab ,bad potatoes poor quality.
Dont do it.
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.
Mondo, maybe you should ask the person who 'grows everything well' why you should lime the ground before planting, then tell us what he says! We're really nosey here we are.

Although it's generally advocated NOT to add lime to the potato bed there is a guy on our allotments who limes his whole garden heavily and grows quite a few good large maincrop spuds? They are covered in scab , which he doesn't mind peeling off.
I don't lime my spud patch because I don't like scabby potatoes, and I always thought they preferred acidic ground, but apart from the scab issue, I'm not so sure?

Hi Guys
I said I would post the reasons from the person who "Grows everything well". It seams he was a little confused and does not put lime down for potato's. Glad I checked
