What a week every thing seems to be drying out chicken run plot, Was planning to put manure on plot but been let down,But had a busy weekend sorry had friday off so got loads done took 2 sheds down made 4 bonfires cleared the extra allotment i took on ,But cant move now god forgot how bad this could be on your back hatched a few chicks thursday so got new shed and run ready and toms peppers and cucumbers come up now so all in all doing well HOWS EVERY ONE ELSE DOING.

Poor Snake! Hope you're getting at bit of time out there to at least do some planning. Hopefully you'll get some good weather for your R&R.

only doing a short tour(2 months) and it was over december and january so got to spend the crap months away and i have made and remade more plans than i can remember. but back in a week or two and got a couple of weeks of so i should catch up with things

Hi snake, you've got a helluva job there, how do you manage an allotment as well?? I'm going for a month away to Serbia this year (July) and I'm dreading finding the plot overgrown with all sorts... I'm thinking about what I can plant that can just get on with it... what do you grow?

it is hard keeping on top of things and i spend every july in canada so when i get back there is quite a few weeds. but i grow a lot of things that can sort of look after them selfs and keep weeds down. i have a lot of strawberries grown thickly together. some ruhbarb(dont reali like it but other people do and its easy to grow) lots of onion sets and loads of spuds. i grow all the normal stuff as well but i only get half as good results as every one else. i get a bit of hassle from the other allotment holders about my weeds. but when i am down there my mind is as far away from here as possible. i found its this best stress relif you can get.

Sounds like you are going a grand job snake!

As far as how we are getting on...
Need to do much more weeding, but the paths are still flooded- so that will have to wait another week or so.
Still waiting for our muck to arrive- we have to spread it in spring as our water table is so high that it leaches away nutrients over the winter.
Want to clean the greenhouse glass.
Have bought spuds( need some egg boxes now!), shallots and onions and a few fruit bushes.
Found and sorting last years seeds and it looks like we only need parsnip and carrot seeds this year ( going to be good and use up old packets) - that should save a bit of cash!

Yep - it FEELS like it's getting started folks!

i forgot to mention i allways cut the grass before i go and put all the cuttings around the base of my plants they keep the weeds down and they compost down. i know a lot of people will dissagree with me but it does work to a serten degree when you are away for more than a few weeks.
