  • Greenhouses in France

Sorry this is directed at French residents but here goes. Does anyone know of anything akin to the freecycle type thing in France? I am trying to buy a greenhouse and all readers will know just how expensive they are. I am registered on 2 freecycle sites in UK but they just dont come up. In this region of France, greenhouses are very rarely seen in gardens and I dont want to pay full whack, possibly including postage from UK as well, for reasons that I'm sure all can understand.
I have used www.leboncoin.fr(or .com) but no greenhouses in my area.
    All help happily received.
    Many thanks

Hi Bobleponge, and welcome to the Grapevine.

There is a Freecycle system here in France. I haven't used it but I expect it works in a similar wat to that in UK. I don't think there are as many outlets but you may be lucky.

Here's hoping you find what you are looking for. We bought ours new from Briconautes here in Montlucon. I expect the larger brico stores in your area may have them if you want to buy one new.

Ooh! Good luck with it Scarey, it'll be a true bonus to your crop growing for the future.... Up the top end of your plot? (see Wellie squint and try remember layout of Scarey's garden?)

And completely 'on the back of'....a very serious question for both for you, if I may be permitted...:
Given that a certain square metreage (sp?) of decking patio needs planning permission, how also does this affect the square metreage and erection of a Glasshouse within local planning laws??

Welcome to the vine, Bob and best of luck with your greenhouse (and you, too, Scarey, hope yours doesn't blow away like ours did (stupid polycarbonate - never a-bloody-gain).

I would wish you more of a welcome, Bob, but sadly, I've now started singing Bob L'Eponge (Qui vit dans un ananas sous la mer?) so I will just have to kill you instead. Off to bed now! Ignore me! You're very welcome!

In the 35 a non residential dwelling (garage greenhouse barn etc) needs no special planning permission.
I would have to apply to the mairie for approval and as long as none of my neighbours (what are they?) didnt complain I could make my erection (as it were).
I believe that in the 44 that is the same, certainly was when I lived there.
I cant speak for anywhere else in France, but I have no doubts the laws are more stringent in built up areas.
              Hope that helps

Mmm... food for thought L'eponge. The one I wanted to take with me is a large one, and so I need to be sure of my facts.....

Well I survived the night without being murdered by a sadistic spongebob squarepants hater and recieved confirmation from my local mayor about what I said earlier Wellie.
As long as no neighbours lodge a complaint, I can ask for planning consent and be granted it. (It does help quite a lot I think having the mayor as a personal friend, I know it shouldnt be that way but it is). He also told me that as far as he knows, 44 is the same.
Best of luck with the move of it

Sorry Wellie, a bit late here but I would have said the same as Bob. The local Mairie is the first point of call for all of these things, and everything else as far as I can tell.

We are planning to put ours by the wall of the "pig pen" in my plot just above where we planted the shallots that, I might add are doing very well
