  • Is the poundshop potato really a bargain.

Hi guys. I have been in my poundshop today and found 600g bags of Aran Pilot on sale .
Although this may be ideal fo those who only have space to plant roughly 10 tubers. when you compare to wilkos and other outlets who are selling packs of 2.5 kg and 3kg for £3 then its not really agreat deal is it really ????. Your thoughts?. Thanks Minty

Seed potatoes are selected from certified virus and disease free stock grown mainly in Scotland.

Eating spuds are not and that it pretty much the only difference. I only buy certified seed potatos to prevent bringing in disease but in the end the choice is yours and you need to balance the risk with the money saved.

Have to agree Minty, despite being a potato obsessive, when I saw these last week I concluded that they weren't actually such a good deal (especially as I already have *cough* a few *cough* tubers already). I did almost buy some 'just to see' though
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

I think it's horses for courses. To be able to buy in smaller qty is more important than getting the cheapest in bulk for people with limited growing space/resource (obviously not for lottie people). I wanted to try the Maris Peer tubers from Wilko but they only had it in 3kg pack but had I found that variety in Poundland, I have bought that. Obviously the larger amount you buy, the cheaper it gets. What's the third potato variety they have in there, I think the other is a Desiree, is it not?

when I ordered my new potatoes did not think how many there were to the lb, I ordered 38lb of 3 different of new potatoes and have 45 to 50 potatoes also planted in the tunnel.

I am going to hate potatoes after this
