Just been into £Land & got myself 2 blueberry plants, they had quite a lot of other fruits like red currants etc & also quite a few shrub type things. Can't complain for a quid!

seed spud for seed spud Poundland is more expensive, but even though I have an allotment I don't want to use the whole of it growing potatoes and I want to be able to grow several different varieties. Our local Godfreys does huge bags of seed potatoes for around £4, but that's too many of one variety for me.

For anyone who has not yet ordered their seed pots this year - I've just had an email from T&M today detailing an extra free offer of 5x Sarpo Experimental with orders over £20 - not just spuds - but other stuff from the veg plants section. By default you will also qualify for 20x Ulster Sceptre - for £19 spend.

If not in receipt of the email, go straight to the website adjust your letter/offer code to N015 and the extra 'test' variety will appear as an option. Its only 5 spuds - but its worth a try and better than a prod with a pointy stick if you're buying quite a bit anyway!

Amongst my selections this year are the Mayan Gold (fairly new?), Ratte(re-introduction) and Salad Blue - which will retain its blue colour if steamed - can't wait to give this fun heritage variety a go and serve it up! Hope its not all colour and no flavour/character.

Have managed to scrounge quite a few flower buckets from Asda and local Co-Op to house! FYI - Asda now crush and recycyle - but if you make friends with the flower lady she'll probably let you have a few off the shop floor. Co-Op seem to have no recycling scheme (as yet) and I've made requests to local and nearest larger store and they are happy to let me have what they have rather than send to landfill. Having spent shedloads of cash on the tall spud-tubs am rather peeved that I did not know about this free resource last year. Well nearly free - I usually put a litle cash to say thanks in whatever charity box they have running at the time as they don't want payment. Everyone wins!

OOh, on the subject of bargains, if you're in Bury, have you ever bought plants from the guy on Constitution Hill in Sudbury? (It's about 16 miles from you I think).

He has loads of polytunnels in his back garden and must sell plants for the sheer love of it as he has trays of all sorts of different herbs, flowers and veg (it's not unusual to see 6 different types of lettuce for example) for just a pound each!

I love those honesty boxes, and buying from boot fairs - you can get amazing unusual things from people who are passionate about what they are doing!
