  • Homebase Offers

Dunno if this helps, but our local Homebase has loads of gardening stuff going cheap at the moment. 2 litres of Tomato Feed for 99p. Also had greenhouse louvres at £10 with toughened glass.

On average Homebase is usually more expensive than anyone else for garden stuffs (so I've given up on them long time ago) but if they have sale, then their prices are then probably in line with the others without their sale. I noticed Woolies sale price is needed to bring their price down to Wilko's normal price level. Having said that, the tomato feed does sound very cheap .

Personally Homebase for me, is very handy as it's just round the corner from work. I can't abide Tescos or ASDA (also close by), and Woolworths is in the middle of town - which is a pain in the mum at the best of times, let alone during a frantic lunch hour.

I see cost and value as two different things myself.

I might pop round to Homebase tomorrow and have a gander.

i've done the price checking and stuff - by the time i've gone to homebase / woolies / b&q etc, the savings just don't cover the time and cost of petrol etc - especially seeing as i have to go to a local garden centre anyway cos they stock more than homebase / woolies etc
so i normally stick to local garden centre - easy to get to, even if it costs a few pence more
but if i'm down at b&q for something else ....

Like HeyWayne, Homebase is just around the corner from me, so is very convenient. Wilco on the other hand is bang in the middle of town, so I can only get small stuff from them. Adding the cost of parking, time to drive in and back etc, the small premium from Homebase doesn't seem so bad.

I thought the louvres were especially cheap as I've only seen them at £40 or so normally.

Homebase is handy for us, so I'm off for a look at those louvres. I usually wouldn't use Homebase for general gardening/greenhouse stuff as they are very expensive, but I've bought posh pots and things from there in the past and I managed to get a much reduced shed once and bought it on 10% off everything day so it was a real bargain - or at least it was until they stuck on a massive delivery charge.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Homebase have good deals on compost type things all year round. 3 for £10 70 ltr multi purpose bags. cheapest around Coventry. 3 for £12 on organic compost.

I think I'm the only grower in Coventry. Any body else there!

I'd agree with avoiding Tesco and Asda, whatever their prices!

B&Q always seem to be among the best though, apart from specialist bits (which they often don't have on the shelves anyway!). Even bulk-buying building materials from Jewson or Travis Perkins works out more expensive than the same thing in B&Q. That's buying power for you I guess.

Has anyone tried their local councils recycling department. The one based near ipswich has bags of sterilized compost for £1.50 and only £1 if you dig it yourself. i am in the process of trying to get a bulk load from them, which i am sure would work out much cheaper than anywhere. Those in the Suffolk area my contact me once i have more info on amount and price.
